The Children’s Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 140 years. We deliver essential local services that provide safe, trusted support to children and young people during times of significant need.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Manchester Missing Service, where you will provide return home interviews and one to one support to cared‑for children in Manchester. Our service has been established for over 35 years, supporting young people across the city. In this role, you will help young people feel heard, build trusted relationships, and ensure they receive the support they need.
We are currently looking for passionate, empathetic individual, to join our ambitious and supportive team.
The required skills and competencies for this role are
1. A relevant professional qualification e.g. diploma in social work, certificate in youth and community work, or related NVQ
2. Demonstrable understanding of Safeguarding policies and procedures within the context of missing and exploitation
3. Negotiation, facilitation and advocacy skills.
4. To be an engaging, passionate individual, with the skills needed to build trusted relationships with children and young people
5. Assessment and evaluation skills.
6. Accurate recording skills and IT skills in recording/Microsoft office
7. Ability to work on own initiative and to reflect on own practice and performance.
8. Working knowledge of policy and practice related to missing children and those who are exploited
9. A thorough working knowledge of the child care system and legislative framework, particularly the Child Protection system.
10. Experience of working directly with vulnerable children from diverse backgrounds, particularly who are missing and in care of local authorities need and risk and planning interventions.
11. Experience of supporting people who are dealing with complex and sensitive issues.
12. Significant experience of multi-agency working
