The Industrial Design is done. What this team needs now is someone who can take that external form, engineer it into a live client CAD environment, and get production-ready drawings out the other side. This is a contract Senior Industrial Designer / Design Engineer role, remote with a London-based team, paying £400–£450 per day, with an immediate start available.
Scope of the Role
This Senior Industrial Designer / Design Engineer contract sits at the intersection of industrial design and design engineering. The concept work is largely complete; your job is to take it forward into engineered, manufacturable parts and full production documentation, embedded in a small, senior design team for approximately one month.
* Integrate existing external ID into a clients SOLIDWORKS master file and database
* Engineer finished parts within that live CAD environment to DFM standard
* Produce complete, production-ready part drawings with tolerances, dimensions, and GD&T
* Work across plastic parts, mechanicals, and sheet metal components
* Collaborate closely with a lead engineer and design-CAD lead throughout
Key Skills and Experience Required
* Expert-level SOLIDWORKS: surfacing, part modelling for plastics and sheet metal, complex assembly work, and production drawings
* Proven background in industrial design, not pure engineering: you understand form, human factors, and how aesthetics marry with manufacture
* Extensive contract experience across multiple assignments, with a track record of dropping into busy teams and contributing from day one
* Experience integrating into existing client CAD environments and databases
* Comfortable working across plastics, sheet metal, and complex mechanical assemblies
Salary and Benefits
* Day rate: £400–£450 per day
* Contract duration: approximately one month (2–3 days per week, with scope to compress if needed)
* Immediate start
A Senior Industrial Designer / Design Engineer who can read a brief, integrate fast, and deliver clean production data will thrive here. The team is small and senior, the work is clearly scoped, and there is no long onboarding or large corporate structure around it. The ID phase is complete; this is the engineering and documentation sprint that gets everything across the line. One informal interview, one decision, straight in.
