The Role
The Head of Sustainability is a senior leadership role with strategic, commercial, and external-facing responsibilities. You will define and deliver the company’s sustainability strategy while acting as the primary subject-matter expert across projects, pitches, marketing, and industry engagement.
This role combines sustainability leadership with strong communication and storytelling. You will regularly contribute to client pitches and presentations, support the sales process, and represent the business through public speaking, panels, and industry events. You will also collaborate closely with marketing teams, consulting on sustainability-related content for social media, campaigns, and brand communications to ensure credibility, clarity, and impact.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of the company’s sustainability strategy, policies, and roadmap
Act as the sustainability lead across client projects, ensuring delivery against environmental, circularity, and responsible sourcing requirements
Support business development through sustainability-led pitches, presentations, tenders, and client meetings
Confidently present sustainability credentials and performance to clients, partners, and external stakeholders
Represent the business externally through public speaking, panel discussions, industry events, and thought leadership
Collaborate with marketing teams to advise on sustainability-related social media content, campaigns, and messaging
Ensure sustainability communications are accurate, engaging, and aligned with the brand’s tone of voice
Lead and develop the sustainability team, including performance management and capability building
Oversee sustainability reporting, data management, and alignment with external standards and certifications
Drive responsible supply chain practices, supplier engagement, and sustainability data collection
Partner with leadership, commercial, and project teams to embed sustainability into decision-making across the business
What the Client Would Like to See
Significant experience in a senior sustainability role within a scaleup, SME, or fast-moving organisation
Strong knowledge of sustainability within design, interiors, built environment, or related industries
Proven experience contributing to pitches, client presentations, and tender processes
Confidence in public speaking and representing a business externally on sustainability topics
Ability to communicate complex sustainability data and frameworks in a clear, compelling way
Experience influencing senior stakeholders, clients, and supply chain partners
A hands-on, adaptable approach suited to a growing, entrepreneurial environment
What We Would Like to See
A sustainability leader who is also a strong storyteller and brand ambassador
Someone comfortable working across strategy, delivery, marketing, and communications
Experience collaborating with marketing teams or advising on sustainability content for social media
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to accuracy and credibility
A proactive, commercially aware mindset with the confidence to take ownership
Passion for design-led businesses and using sustainability as a differentiator in the market
