As Switch Health’s Clinic Nurse, you will be responsible for collection of nasal specimens, primarily using bilateral anterior swabbing technique and/or other types of swabbing technique for the purpose of testing for COVID-19 within the scope of practice identified by the College of Nurses of Nova Scotia, and in accordance to Public Health of Nova Scotia set Guidelines for collection of such sampling. As a member of and in collaboration with the entire team of Switch Health, the Clinic Nurse contributes to safe collection and processing of specimens while exhibiting exceptional infection control procedures to ensure protection of our staff and clients. The Clinic Nurse will also contribute in creating a positive client experience with every interaction throughout the process based on professionalism, respect, and integrity for all the clients served. Responsibilities Collection of nasal specimens, primarily using bilateral anterior swabbing technique and/or other nasal collection techniques for the purpose of testing for COVID-19 diagnostics of positive or asymptomatic clients Follow infection control protocol specifically related to donning and doffing PPE as well as handling specimens Ensuring accurate documentation including patient requisitions and specimen labels Interacting with employees, co-workers and managers is a professional and friendly manner Provide symptom checks and care for patients if adverse events arise Perform duties with discretion and professionalism at all times Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as excel and outlook Proficient with basic computer functions and general knowledge of QR codes Qualifications Graduate of an RN/LPN program from a recognized institution. Current Registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. Able to work Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm Available to work some weekends/evenings depending on operational needs of the clinic. Basic knowledge of swab collection and/or COVID-19 Testing procedure Excellent interpersonal and listening skills with an ability to work effectively with others. Demonstrated strong decision making, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively resolve conflict in a productive and respectful manner. Knowledge of Regulated Health Professions Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and the Standards of Practice of NSCN. Experience and knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control measures. Knowledge of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use and hand washing techniques. Practices in accordance with NSCN’s Confidentiality and Privacy-Personal Health Information Practice Standard and adheres to the policies and procedures of Switch Health.
