Underwriter - Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 Are you someone who enjoys building strong relationships with brokers and customers, taking the time to truly understand their needs and deliver the right underwriting solutions? This is a great opportunity for an experienced commercial underwriter who enjoys trading, collaboration and developing profitable portfolios within a supportive, customer-focused organisation. A bit about the job: In this role, you'll join Aviva's commercial underwriting team in Southampton, where you'll be aligned to a defined portfolio of brokers and customers. Your focus will be on underwriting and trading commercial risks, developing strong broker relationships and supporting profitable growth across the portfolio. You'll work end to end with brokers and customers, collaborating closely with the wider underwriting team to support the Lead Trading Underwriter and Underwriting Leader in delivering financial targets. You'll also play an active role in supporting Aviva's SME strategy, operating as a mobile underwriter and working professionally and effectively wherever you're based. Alongside your day-to-day responsibilities, you'll have the opportunity to develop your technical capability, including working towards appropriate underwriting licence levels for your grade, with access to the apprenticeship scheme where relevant. Skills and experience we're looking for: Proven experience in commercial underwriting, within Commercial Property, Liability and/or Commercial Motor Strong communication, listening, time-management and negotiation skills Experience analysing risk, with the ability to clearly explain underwriting decisions to brokers and/or customers Ability to work collaboratively within a large, complex organisation Good knowledge of FCA requirements and relevant insurance regulation and legislation What you'll get for this role: Our purpose - with you today, for a better tomorrow - is a promise we make to our colleagues too.
