This post is an excellent opportunity for a suitably experienced and qualified individual, with an interest in developing their experience and skills in national population based screening programmes to deliver improved outcomes for population health in Wales.
The post holder will be Public Health Consultant Lead for an agreed portfolio of Screening Programmes across Wales, and be a key lead within the division to ensure delivery and development of the Screening Programmes to deliver excellent services for population in Wales. The Division forms part of the Health Protection and Screening Services Directorate.
The model of screening provision in Wales is unique within the UK with directly managed services provided from within an NHS Trust dedicated to population health. The Screening Division currently comprises the breast, cervical, bowel, abdominal aortic aneurysm, newborn hearing, diabetic eye screening, newborn bloodspot and antenatal screening programmes. The division has recently been asked to implement a national lung cancer screening programme for Wales.
The salary scale is either medical consultant or band 9 on agenda for change. The role is substantive and full time. Applicants who wish to work less than full time will be considered.
This role includes strategic public health leadership for an agreed portfolio of screening programmes and cross divisional work in Wales. These leadership roles ensure equitable, excellent service provision across Wales; working with Welsh Government policy leads; attending identified National Screening Committee reference groups to develop screening policy and collaboration with UK colleagues.
The Role Includes
* Public health advice and leadership to support and inform an evidence-based approach within ethical frameworks for providing and developing high quality equitable services;
* Strategic leadership of programmes and elements of the organisation’s integrated medium term (strategic) plan
* Working with professional leads and managers to establish clear outcomes for improving health through screening services
* Providing screening expertise input to colleagues and established groups and workstreams to support the work on prevention and early diagnosis to improve outcomes
* Strategic leadership and management of staff
* Monitoring and contributing to the formulation of department/ service budgets and financial initiatives
The successful candidate will lead on the management and development of agreed programmes. They will be a key member of the divisional Senior Management Team and will build relationships across the programmes as well as with key stakeholders from other areas of Public Health Wales and other organisations including all Health Boards across Wales.
