Consultant in Endoscopy

Main duties of the job
The post holder will primarily work at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and the Horton Hospital in Banbury, and may be required to work at any other Trust locations, including Saturday lists. Clinical responsibilities include:
* Clinics: 4‑hour sessions – new patients 30 minutes, follow‑up 15 minutes.
* Endoscopy lists: standard 12 units per list, comprising upper gastrointestinal (1 diagnostic unit, 1.5–2 therapeutic units) and colonoscopy (2 diagnostic units with simple polypectomy, 3 therapeutic units).
Teaching and research commitments:
* Provide teaching to clinical students, junior doctors and oversee clinical examinations.
* Contribute to research and clinical audit as part of the regular job plan review.
Clinical governance and quality:
* Participate in clinical audit, effectiveness, risk management and quality improvement activities.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety, infection control and information governance policies.
Management and administrative duties:
* Support the leadership of the clinical department and manage resources in line with Trust policies.
* Maintain updated knowledge of professional standards and engage in continuing professional development.

Person Specification
Qualifications / Training
* Full GMC registration.
* MRCP or equivalent.
* CCT in Gastroenterology or registration on the GMC Specialist Register within six months of interview.
* Specialist level training in gastroenterology with extensive endoscopy experience – JAG accreditation or equivalent for Upper GI endoscopy.
* PhD or equivalent (preferred).
Experience
* Specialist level training in gastroenterology, IBD, hepatology or nutrition.
* Consultant or senior trainee level experience.
* Extensive experience in upper and lower GI endoscopy, including advanced therapeutic procedures.
* Training or experience in intestinal ultrasound (preferred).
Skills and Knowledge
* Leadership, organisational and communication skills suitable for a consultant in a large teaching hospital.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and spoken/written English.
* Computing proficiency with standard programmes.
* Experience teaching undergraduates and trainees.
* Evidence of effective contribution to clinical governance, risk management and audit.
* Ability to conduct independent research and attract funding.
* Advanced communication and management training experience.
* Knowledge of NHS organisation and government modernisation agenda.
* Experience with clinical trials.
Other Requirements
* Valid driving licence.
