Overview
We are seeking a Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals. You will lead and develop a dispersed team and work to ensure compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) and related obligations. The role supports the wider organisation in improving processes and sharing knowledge of POCA legislation. Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership for the ECU and manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer.
* Motivate, develop, and manage performance and delivery of your team.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC).
* Influence senior stakeholders to ensure the Environment Agency’s priorities are supported by external enforcement agencies.
* Support the wider organisation in improving practices, share lessons learned, and advise enforcement officers across the country on POCA.
* Be involved in continuous improvements of working practices and technical documentation related to POCA.
Experience / Skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience managing a dispersed team.
* Strong understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Experience in the law enforcement sector and understanding of the National Intelligence Model.
* Effective communication, including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritise a varied workload, and identify areas for improvement to lead changes in working practices.
* Experience developing and enhancing the capability of a team and the individuals within it.
* Contact and travel requirements: hybrid role with travel across the country for meetings and operational duties.
Contact and Additional Information
This is a hybrid working role; you’ll work from home and your nearest office. An incident role may be required and you should be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. Training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you. Interviews will take place in w/c 3 November 2025.
