H&S Assistant

Edward Vinson Ltd is based in the South East of England and has been growing fruits for over 150 years and now consists of three main departments: Breeding, Propagation and Commercial field production.Our busiest period is between May and October with 900 staff members working for us, accommodated in 3 different campsites at EV and 5 campsites at EVP.
Reporting to the Head of Operations & Infrastructure, this new position requires a highly motivated and organised person who is able to travel between the work and accommodation sites.
Ideal candidate will have NEBOSH General Certificate or at least IOSH Managing safely certification, also have knowledge of fresh fruit industry and audit compliance. Willing to use their own vehicle at times when a company car is not available.
Responsibilities
· Conducting health and safety inspections and prepare reports of all company sites
· Organising H&S training for all departments/liaising with managers
· Organising schedule for H&S Committee meetings
· Liaising with training companies to organise statutory training
· Assists with updating and creating Risk Assessments and safe systems of work
· Liaise with contractors and visitors
· Attend H&S trainings
· Manage important checks like first aid, fire extinguishers, signs
· Oversee any site projects to ensure safe systems of work are adhered to
· Assist managers to achieve H&S compliance
· Purchasing adequate PPE for staff
· Carrying out investigations into all accidents and near-miss incidents and to record the findings on the relevant forms
· Keeping all safety documents and policies updated
· Ensure safety checks are carried out for company vehicles and machinery
· Set an example for team members of commitment, health and safety awareness, work ethics and habits and personal character
· Support Rosie Plants (Bulgarian based team) with the site H&S – Some travel abroad to Bulgaria will be required
Key Attributes
· Nebosh general certificate or working towards
· IOSH Managing safely
· First Aid certification/Manual handling/working at height (desirable)
· Experience managing safety on similar site/experience in agriculture
· Ability to ask questions, seek clarification and exchange information
· Good level of Word; Excel; Powerpoint
· Excellent English level (reading and writing)
· Flexibility - Driving licence, will be required to travel between the sites in own vehicle
· Leadership with ability to drive a team
· Ability to work under pressure
Working hours – flexible to fit in with the right candidate but ideally 8 to 5 PM
Pay rate dependant on experience
