Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) Cardiology Fellow

NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

The appointee will be joining an ICC team. The role of Clinical Fellow is to help support the rapidly expanding Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) service. There has been a major increase in the ICC service in recent years and an increase in referrals from within the region and from further afield. There is a strong link with the Genetics service with a Consultant Geneticist and 2 genetic counsellors present for ICC clinics and the ICC MDT. Referrals to all aspects of ICC have increased significantly. The specialist ICC service is delivered through outpatient clinics, an established obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy service, device implantation and ablation of arrhythmias. Cardiomyopathy clinics are run four times a week, one of these is a specific obstructive HCM. The ‘heart muscle disease’service has benefited from a true multi-disciplinary clinic once a month with imaging / EP / device / structural expertise. There is a sports cardiology clinic run in conjunction with specialist echocardiography and cardiopulmonary exercise testing support.

Main duties of the job

The ICC fellow would have the opportunity to work across all aspects of the ICC unit with a team of ICC consultants, who have additional sub-specialist interests in imaging (both MRI and echo), devices, and electrophysiology. Outpatient clinics will form a major part of the job plan, combined with MDT meetings. Specialist experience will be in dedicated cardiomyopathy and inherited channelopathy clinics.
