Role Overview
To become an integral member of multi-disciplinary design team striving to make a real difference to the energy transition. You will be coming up with innovative designs and solutions that you will see through from Drawing to manufacture to operation. The post holder will have responsibility for the design of the piping system and assemblies and will interface with key stakeholders and subject matter experts in order to deliver optimised solutions; this will involve the use of CAD/CAE to produce models, drawings, analysis and reports.
Role Responsibilities
* Lead the design and layout of piping systems for compressed air energy storage modules using AutoCAD Plant 3D.
* Integrate major equipment (compressors, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, etc.) into packaged skid-based or containerized systems.
* Ensure designs meet relevant codes and standards, with a focus on safe access, maintenance, and regulatory compliance (e.g. PUWER, DSEAR, PED).
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, process, controls, structural) to optimize spatial and functional integration.
* Support risk assessments, HAZOPs, and design reviews through each project phase (Pre-FEED, FEED, Detailed Design).
* Generate and review detailed fabrication drawings, isometrics, and Bill of Materials (BoMs).
* Engage with vendors and fabricators to resolve technical issues and ensure design intent is maintained during build.
* To create, update and maintain design substantiation files. Evidencing the designs to company standards and presenting internally at design review gates.
* Develop best practices within the design team, constantly striving for continuous improvement
* Input into the design innovation program to improve system performance, cost and reliability. Taking a pro-active approach to thinking of novel design concepts
* Input into the overarching project management program providing key data to ensure plans are accurate.
* Mentor junior engineers and support internal knowledge development in piping and layout engineering.

* Proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D and associated tools for piping and layout design.
* Experience with packaged or skid-based equipment design and integration.
* Knowledge of relevant design standards (ASME B31.3, Eurocode, PE(S)R, etc.).
* Understanding of access requirements for operation and maintenance, and associated regulations (e.g., PUWER).
* Knowledge of Pipe Stressing and calculating Nozzle loads
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills across disciplines and teams.
DESIRABLE (IF ANY)
* Experience in packaging compressors
* Experience in Structural Design of skids and enclosures.
