Essential Criteria
* Experience working with clients with communication difficulties.
* Ability to communicate with clients with poor communication skills.
* I.T. Skills
* Willingness to complete an Enhanced Access NI
* NVQ 3 in Child Care or equivalent in relevant area
Plus 2 years relevant experience OR HNC/D in relevant subject or equivalent Plus 1 year’s relevant experience OR 4 year’s relevant experience
* Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. These criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
Duties and Responsibilities
* To assist the Speech and Language Therapist in the delivery of the Speech and Language Therapy Service for children attending Primary and Nursery Schools in the Downpatrick Neighbourhood Renewal area.
* Assist the Speech & Language Therapist in planning, preparing and carrying out therapy programmes on an individual and/or group basis for children with speech and language difficulties and associated conditions.
* To be responsible for the collection of all referrals to the Speech and Language Therapy team. This will include updating information on the appropriate data bases.
* Preparation, maintenance and monitoring of equipment/resources for own use and for others as delegated by the Speech and Language Therapist.
* Record and report child’s progress to the supervising Speech & Language Therapist.
* Ensure the completion and distribution of accurate and timely information reports in accordance with the requirements laid down by the Speech and Language Therapy department and Trust. This will include the provision and collation of statistics and other information as requested.
