Project Details

The successful candidate will work on major domestic and international construction and engineering disputes. These are likely to include high-value building, infrastructure and engineering matters requiring quantum analysis, expert reporting, dispute resolution support and commercial advisory input. Specific live projects are not known.

Responsibilities and Duties

This Quantum Expert Witness job is suited to a highly experienced disputes professional with strong expertise in quantum matters, expert work and construction dispute resolution.

The role will involve leading complex commissions, managing teams and developing client relationships in the London construction disputes market and wider international construction disputes sector.

1. Lead major domestic and international disputes as the lead Quantum Expert
2. Manage teams of quantum analysts by defining the key issues, setting parameters for analysis and delegating work effectively
3. Review, collate and synthesise analysis from multiple sources into clear expert opinions
4. Write high-quality expert reports and related formal documents for dispute resolution proceedings
5. Lead assignments involving risk advisory, commercial management and dispute resolution services
6. Testify as a Quantum Expert Witness when required
7. Attend and lead regular meetings with clients, solicitors, counsel and other legal professionals
8. Play a major role in winning future work and developing new business for the practice
9. Work closely with internal and external specialists, including delay experts and other technical teams
10. Support the development, mentoring and quality assurance of more junior analysts and consultants

Desired Skills and Experience

This Quantum Expert Witness role requires an established expert with deep knowledge of construction claims, expert report writing and formal dispute resolution proceedings.

The employer is seeking a strong client-facing professional with proven leadership skills and the credibility to help grow a leading expert witness business.

11. Previous experience acting as lead expert on major construction disputes
12. Ideally experience of giving oral evidence and being cross-examined
13. Strong experience managing teams within a lead expert role
14. Expert-level knowledge of quantum issues in construction disputes
15. Excellent expert report writing and analytical skills
16. Good understanding of the duties of an expert under CPR 35
17. Significant knowledge of adjudication, arbitration, litigation and ADR proceedings
18. Ability to lead complex quantum analysis on large and high-value disputes
19. Proven business development and work-winning capability, ideally with examples of commissions secured with previous employers
20. Excellent client-facing, stakeholder management and communication skills
21. Ability to work collaboratively with delay, technical and commercial teams
22. Candidates with strong assistant lead expert experience may also be considered where they are ready to step into a lead expert role

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

23. Full membership of the RICS is essential
24. A degree in Quantity Surveying or another relevant construction-related subject is highly desirable
25. A relevant legal or construction law qualification such as an MSc, LLM or LLB is preferred
26. Candidates not yet holding a relevant construction law qualification should be willing to complete one
