It is a key part of the Government’s place and community agenda, and a brilliant place to come and make a difference. Our preserved heritage tells our national story - from monuments such as Stonehenge, to our industrial landscapes to local pubs.

The Heritage team does everything from listing buildings to designing and operationalising grant schemes. We are a flexible team and work to ensure the best outcomes for our Secretary of State's priorities:

Scope of Responsibilities
The sponsorship team oversees the performance of 5 key heritage organisations including Historic Royal Palaces and Historic England. The protection team delivers a service, taking c1000 decisions a year on whether buildings should be listed, or monuments scheduled.
You will deliver the vision of a best in class sponsorship team, working with and overseeing the performance of Historic England, The Royal Parks, Historic Royal Palaces, National Heritage Memorial Fund and Churches Conservation Trust. You will also deliver a service for the taxpayer- our protection team work with our advisors in Historic England to list and schedule buildings and monuments. This is a great opportunity to drive change and improvement to get the best value for the taxpayer. It also involves engaging on fascinating and unusual individual cases! You will lead teams to:
* Drive alignment between ALBs and Ministerial priorities, through building relationships with senior teams in your arms length bodies, and holding them to account.
* Ensure sponsorship standards are met, monitoring performance as well as compliance with government standards.
* Lead (with business partners) business planning for your organisations
* Lead a £10m+ contract negotiation
* Ensure high performance of the casework service delivery, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
* Provide capability building and direction on cases which engage policy, presentational and legal issues.
* You will also be expected to make a strong corporate contribution to the SMT, wider team and directorate.
