Job Description

As Programme and Socio-Economic Analyst, you will play a key role in demonstrating the value and impact of UKAEA's programmes and investments. Working within the Executive Office, you will lead analytical projects that inform strategic decision-making, support future funding bids, and provide robust evidence of the economic and societal benefits generated by fusion research and innovation. This is a highly visible role, requiring close collaboration with senior leaders across UKAEA, government departments and external partners.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the appraisal, evaluation and benefits realisation of major UKAEA programmes and investments.
  • Design and deliver economic, quantitative and qualitative analysis to support business cases, value-for-money assessments and strategic decision-making.
  • Develop methodologies and evidence frameworks to measure the socio-economic impact of fusion research and innovation.
  • Implement and continuously improve UKAEA's monitoring and evaluation framework across programmes and projects.
  • Commission and manage external research and evaluation activities to strengthen the organisational evidence base.
  • Produce high-quality analytical reports, insights and recommendations for senior leaders, government stakeholders and funding bodies.
  • Support future Spending Review submissions through robust analysis and evidence gathering.
  • Embed analytical best practice across UKAEA, providing guidance and training aligned to HM Treasury Green Book and Magenta Book principles.
  • Build strong relationships with internal technical experts and external stakeholders, including government departments, research councils and delivery partners.
  • Line manage and develop junior analytical staff while contributing to the growth of analytical capability across the wider organisation.
  • Qualifications

  • Degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Social Science or another analytical discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering economic, statistical, social research or operational analysis, including contribution to business cases and value-for-money assessments.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Government analytical frameworks, particularly HM Treasury Green Book, Magenta Book and Aqua Book principles.
  • Experience designing, delivering and interpreting complex analysis to support strategic decisions and investment priorities.
  • Experience leading analytical work programmes and managing stakeholders across multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings clearly to senior audiences.
