Work on electrical design for UK water infrastructure
Purpose and Scope Of The Role
You will join Tetra Tech’s Water Consultancy team, delivering AMP8 and AMP9 wastewater programmes across the UK. Day-to-day, you will produce electrical and instrumentation/control & automation (ICA) design deliverables, calculations, single line and system architecture diagrams, P&IDs, schedules, reports and drawings, while supporting feasibility through detailed design for programmes that address flooding and pollution. You will work within a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, modellers and data analysts, contributing to frameworks and projects ranging from small works to multi‑million‑pound packages, liaising with clients, contractors and project managers to meet programme milestones and quality standards.
Your Impact In This Position
In the short term, you will develop technical competence in LV/MV distribution, load assessments and ICA architecture while contributing to live AMP projects. Over the medium term, you will take increasing responsibility for complex design packages, lead technical tasks in workshops and HAZOPs, and broaden your CDM Designer inputs.
Core Capabilities
* Electrical design proficiency - Able to perform load assessments, LV/MV distribution design, cable sizing and prepare single line diagrams and schedules.
* ICA and SCADA systems - Competent in developing system architecture, URSs, FDSs, control philosophies and instrument lists for process control.
* Technical documentation & reporting - Skilled at producing specifications, datasheets, reports and procurement documentation to industry standards.
* Collaborative delivery & CDM - Experience working in multidisciplinary teams, contributing to design risk assessments, HAZOPs and complying with CDM duties.
* Site assessment & software skills - Comfortable conducting site surveys, inspections and witness testing; familiarity with AutoCAD or similar design tools is advantageous.
Skills, Qualifications And Experience
Expected: degree in electrical engineering or closely allied subject (IET‑accredited preferred). Desirable: relevant industry training in ICA/SCADA, CDM, or water sector process modules.
Work patterns & locations
Role based in the UK with hybrid working; typical attendance 2–3 days per week in the office and travel to operational sites as required. Flexible arrangements are considered to support delivery and wellbeing.
Assumptions: where project value and team size were unspecified, typical framework projects and a multidisciplinary team were inferred to ensure a practical advert.
