Job Title: Higher Scientific Officer - Ruminant Livestock Research Scientist Location: Hillsborough Salary: £19.59 per hour Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (8:45am – 4:40pm) Duration: 5 months (with possibility of extension) About the Role: An established public sector organisation is seeking a Ruminant Livestock Research Scientist (Higher Scientific Officer) to support livestock production research activities within its scientific research programme. The postholder will be responsible for the delivery of scientific tasks across a range of livestock production research projects. Main Duties / Purpose of Job: Delivery of scientific tasks within livestock production research projects, including: Literature reviews Preparation of reports and research protocols Recording scientific data Manual handling of livestock and agricultural equipment (outdoor-based activities) Review and analysis of scientific data Preparation of scientific outputs, including papers and presentations Essential Criteria: Applicants must meet one of the following qualification routes: 1a. A PhD in agriculture, animal science or a relevant biological science related to animals OR 1b. A degree or higher in agriculture, animal science or a relevant biological science related to animals AND a minimum of 2 years’ demonstrable experience working in a research capacity post-qualification AND Proven experience of conducting scientific studies involving animals and conducting statistical analysis of scientific results, with demonstrated experience of presenting research findings to a range of audiences (e.g. farmers, academic audiences). Evidence of one full peer-reviewed scientific paper, either published or accepted for publication. Other Information: This role is full-time, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. There may be a requirement for overtime when necessary.
