The post holder will assist in the delivery and development of effective needs-based, modern mental health services within the prison, achieving equivalence to healthcare services in the community.

The post holder must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and understanding of mental health issues and treatment options to provide clinical guidance to service users and colleagues on matters related to mental health and wellbeing.

The post holder carries ongoing responsibility for assessing care needs, developing, implementing, and evaluating care programs, and setting standards of care within a secure environment.

To provide comprehensive mental health services as part of the Primary Care Mental Health service at HMP Forest Bank, working within the stepped care model of primary mental health care provision.

To operate as part of a multidisciplinary team, conducting assessments, providing and evaluating a range of health interventions to meet prisoner healthcare needs, and contributing to the continuous development of prison healthcare services.

The Trust mandates all post holders requiring a DBS check to subscribe to the DBS Update Service. Enrollment costs £16 per year, and registration must be maintained throughout employment with GMMH.

This role includes an additional recruitment and retention premium of £1,542 per annum.

An opportunity exists for a Band 6 mental health nurse within the primary care mental health service at HMP Forest Bank, a Category B prison for male prisoners aged 18 and over, operated by Sodexo Justice Services in partnership with GMMH.

The service employs a stepped care model, and the post holder will contribute as a point of entry into the service, utilizing excellent assessment skills.

Pay enhancements include 30% additional pay for evenings (after 8 pm) and Saturdays, and 60% for Sundays and bank holidays.

Additional benefits include 27 days of annual leave plus bank holidays (rising to 29 after 5 years, 33 after 10), an excellent pension scheme, cycle-to-work scheme, salary sacrifice car scheme, wellbeing programs, and Blue Light Card discounts.
