Location: Melton, Woodbridge, SuffolkSalary: Up to £50,000 based on experienceWorking hours: 09:00 17:30Hybrid - at least 2 days in the officer per weekThe purpose of the Platform Software Engineer role is to solve complex business problems and technical challenges through the design and development of software applications and services. This role will contribute directly towards exciting technology opportunities in the public health sector; specifically in general practice.You will be responsible for building and maintaining critical components of our software infrastructure, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security. This role sits within the platform team.ResponsibilitiesDesign and DevelopmentContribute towards the design, develop, and implement high-performance, scalable, and maintainable applications and servicesDevelop APIs and other web servicesWork with databases (relational and NoSQL) to implement data modelsContribute towards all phases of the software development lifecycle, from design and development through to testing, deployment and monitoring & alertingTechnical LeadershipAssist and unblock other members of the team where appropriateConduct code reviews and provide constructive feedbackContribute towards the development of software engineering best practices and principlesParticipate in architectural and design discussionsStay abreast of the latest technologies and industry trendsProblem-SolvingAssist with the diagnosis and assessment of complex technical issuesIdentify and contribute towards solutions designed to improve service or component security, performance, scalability, and reliabilityCollaborationWork closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and other stakeholdersShare ideas and prompt continuous improvement across the teamQuality Assurance & ComplianceWrite unit tests and integration tests to ensure code qualityParticipate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standardsComply with the companys Health & Safety, Data Protection, Information Security, PCI & DSP policies and procedures.Skills RequiredEssentialKnowledge of the product development lifecycleConsiderable working experience with modern PHP including frameworks (e.g.
Laravel)Source control (e.g. GitLab)Working experience with structured and unstructured databases (e.g. MySQL)Knowledge of or working experience with Message Queues (RabbitMQ) & event driven architectureStrong knowledge of software design patterns and object-oriented design principlesWorking experience of unit test frameworks and test automationDesiredStrong expertise in Agile methodologies (e.g.
