Role Overview
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 7 Nurse, Biomedical Scientist, Allied Health or Medical Associate Professional with specialist transfusion knowledge to join the Transfusion Practitioner team.
Responsibilities
* Deliver training and competency assessments in clinical areas.
* Investigate incidents, including patient safety incidents.
* Perform transfusion audits and promote Good Transfusion Practice within the Trust.
* Develop and review clinical transfusion policies in line with NICE, Blood and Safety Quality Regulations 2005, and Patient Blood Management.
* Supervise the Trust Transfusion Practitioner Team of two assistant staff.
* Provide specialist education, training and competency support to other staff.
* Ensure transfusion practice complies with local policy, national guidelines and international law.
* Promote patient blood management initiatives, including identification of transfusion alternatives and information and consent to blood transfusion in line with NICE recommendations.
* Lead research and clinical audits in the specialist area.
Qualifications
* Good working knowledge of general blood transfusion practice and wider transfusion issues in both local and national contexts.
* Band 7 level clinical qualification in nursing, biomedical science, allied health or medical associate practice.
* Relevant specialist certificates as stated essential in the person specification.
* Experience with transfusion policy development, incident investigation, and audit.
* Strong communication and supervisory skills.
Location
This role is based at Darlington Memorial Hospital with requirements to work at University Hospital North Durham once or twice per week and visit other Trust sites in Bishop Auckland, Shotley Bridge, Chester le Street, Richardson, and Sedgefield.
