Engineering Manager – Design of Facilities
Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.
Package: £49,480 – £70,000 (depending on suitability, qualifications, and level of experience).
Working pattern: AWE operates a 9‑day working fortnight. Flexible working requests are considered.
AWE is recruiting an Engineering Manager for the Capital Engineering function. You’ll be the focal point for supporting existing and new high‑hazard facilities and operations. Working with the Principal Engineering Manager, you will ensure facility designs (infrastructure, utilities, processes, equipment) are suitable and appropriate by identifying and selecting solutions to meet business needs while considering functional performance and licensing conditions.
Qualifications
* HNC/HND qualification or 4+ years industry experience in a highly regulated environment.
* Ability to work across functions, providing support between the Facility, Subject Matter Experts, and Technical Authorities.
* Experience managing external suppliers and in‑house teams to deliver project design packages.
* Experience of all aspects of the project life cycle.
* Establishment of requirements and problem definition.
* History of developing and designing solutions.
* Configuration management and application of change control.
Additional Skills
* Delivery of engineering design and outputs underpinning continuous safe operations.
* Contributing within a multi‑discipline environment and being responsible for the engineering design and guardianship of high‑integrity assets through the whole life cycle.
* Articulating technical complexities and allocating project/design engineers with design‑related tasks to meet working programmes.

Working at AWE
Hybrid working is available on an informal, non‑contractual basis, typically 2–3 days onsite per week.
