Progress Tutor – 37 hours per week, 41 weeks per year

1-Year Fixed Term Contract – Academic Year 2025/2026
Actual Salary – £25,987 - £27,552

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on young people's lives? Are you eager to support their educational journey and help them achieve their full potential?

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Student Support Service as a Progress Tutor. This full-time, term time only (plus 2 weeks) position is offered as a 1-year fixed term contract for the 2025/2026 academic year. It provides a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are keen on working with young people and potentially pursuing a future in teaching.

As a Progress Tutor, you'll play a pivotal role in our students' success by overseeing the progress of a caseload of 240 students across 10 groups, delivering engaging group tutorials, and providing personalised pastoral support and guidance. You'll work closely with students to set and monitor targets related to achievement, retention, attendance, and progression, while also collaborating to develop pastoral resources to support their learning experience and wellbeing.

You will promote and nurture a culture focused on growth, purpose, and a sense of belonging to help students achieve, find their best fit for the future and to be their best selves. You will do this by engaging all relevant stakeholders (both within the college and externally) to provide a complimentary service to address the needs of students who require support to overcome the barriers to learning they may experience both inside and outside the college (social, emotional and mental health), in order that they are able to reach their full potential.

The ideal candidates will possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive under pressure while managing multiple deadlines. You'll need to be self-motivated, a strong team player, and proficient in IT skills. Most importantly, you'll have a genuine passion for working with young people and providing them with the support they need to succeed. You must be motivated to enable students to achieve their very best – balancing a caring and compassionate approach with the level of focus, engagement and encouragement required both in the classroom and outside. The role may also involve working in support of vulnerable students with mental health needs, so experience or a qualification (such as mental health first aid training) in this area would be desirable. You must have the ability to work in sometimes challenging situations, remaining calm and de-escalating situations effectively.

While a graduate degree is desirable, we welcome applications from individuals with relevant experience and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of our students. A full training package will be available to develop and support you in this role. Join our vibrant, enthusiastic, and friendly team and become part of a community dedicated to supporting young adults to thrive and flourish.

You will be joining a team that is dedicated to providing outstanding support to students in order to maximise learning progress.

Based on the quality and quantity of applications received, we may shortlist, interview or close this vacancy sooner than the specified closing date. Therefore, early applications are encouraged.
