Are you ready to take on a strategic leadership role that blends technical expertise with curatorial vision to help shape and deliver exciting heritage and visual art programmes and contribute to a major transformative cultural project in Kirklees? Kirklees Museums and Galleries are looking for a confident and experienced Curatorial & Technical Manager to lead our small but passionate team through an exciting period of transformation. With existing sites at Tolson Museum, Oakwell Hall and Country Park, and Bagshaw Museum, and the upcoming development of a new Museum and Art Gallery in Huddersfield as part of Our Cultural Heart; this is a pivotal role in shaping the future of our service and our district. Our Cultural Heart (OCH) is Home - Our Cultural Heart a transformative cultural regeneration programme for Huddersfield and the wider Kirklees borough. You’ll be responsible for managing a team of curatorial and technical staff, supporting our Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) programme, and ensuring our collections and exhibitions across the service reflect the diverse stories of Kirklees. The work of your team will ensure our collection is well cared for and accessible, by working to Arts Council England Museum Accreditation and Spectrum standards across all sites and collection resource stores. You will be required to lead on collections management and technical processes to ensure exhibition design and installation, and site presentation is safe, secure, relevant, high quality and engaging. It’s an exciting time to join us as you will also supervise the Our Cultural Heart curatorial and technical team responsible for the major project to document and transfer key relevant museum and visual art collections, as well as the development of co-produced curatorial content for our new museum and gallery The role is a unique opportunity at the heart of our service, to support and inspire our team as we champion inclusive practices and community-led heritage projects. You will be confident in fostering partnerships with national organisations and local communities to help promote our collections through innovation in storytelling, including digitisation and immersive technologies. What We’re Looking For We’re seeking a proficient manager with: Strong museum/and or art gallery technical management skills, with a practical and proactive approach to problem solving Extensive understanding of curatorial and exhibition practices, including documentation standards. Experience leading teams through change in fast-paced environments. A collaborative approach to leadership and stakeholder engagement. Commitment to inclusive, accessible, and culturally responsive museum practices. Knowledge of project management principles and heritage sector standards. Why Join Us?
