About The Turing Trust

The Turing Trust is a growing IT charity based in Edinburgh where we refurbish IT equipment, install a range of educational software and provide it to those who need it most. The Turing Trust was set up by Alan Turing's family to enable IT supported learning by reusing computers in classrooms globally. We provide skills development while reducing waste and contributing to an environmentally friendly society. About The Role

We are a small but steadily growing team so it’s an exciting time to join us. In the role you will lead your workshop and warehouse teams on a daily basis, helping us to process ever more IT equipment so it can be reused by students globally. You will report to our Head of Operations and work closely with the rest of our departments too. This role will be hands-on, with lots of full, exciting days, whilst ensuring we continue to actively promote a healthy work-life balance - you can read more on our careers page: https://turingtrust.co.uk/about-us/careers/. Overall, this role will give you an opportunity to play a vital part in enabling us to reduce IT waste, offsetting carbon emissions while helping improve digital education for over 50,000 students every year.

The main activities of this role will include:

IT Operations

1. Management of our IT processing including:

a. Overseeing wiping operations including using the appropriate software and producing Data Destruction Certificates. This includes the management of the Data Destruction Certification process and being responsible for this process from beginning to completion and signing off the certificate.

b. Overseeing PC imaging in line with Management’s current priorities. Striving for efficiency while ensuring imaging is targeted at the correct end user requirements.

c. Day-to-day management of the flow of IT processing through the workshop by coordinating between our operations team and volunteers, as well as working alongside our IT Sales department, taking the relevant decisions to allocate resources accordingly.

d. Supporting the implementation of new processes and procedures and ensuring we have suitable accompanying documentation.

e. Assisting the Head of Operations with investigations into ways as to how we can improve our operations processes such as more ecient IT processing and increasing the use of automated processes.

f. Supervising the use of Salesforce so the operations team can ensure donations are sorted and assets labelled in a timely manner, then details are recorded into Salesforce for stocktake etc.

2. Management of our IT stocktake processes.

3. Responsibility for preparing 40’ container shipments of IT equipment from the UK.

Staff Management

4. Line management of 2 directly reporting permanent staff that support our workshop and warehouse functions (or full-time equivalent values) .

5. Line management of temporary staff through employability programmes as well as interns, up to a limit of 4 full-time-equivalent staff at a time.

6. This leads to a total management of up to a maximum of 6 full-time equivalent staff at any one

time.

7. Supporting our operations team with volunteer management as needed alongside the development and maintenance of our overall volunteer strategy.

9. Day-to-day management of our corporate volunteer days, working alongside the Head of

Operations who maintains these relationships.

10. Ad hoc training of volunteers in employability skills where relevant.

Officece Administration

11. Management of issues related to maintaining our workshop premises should anything be escalated by directly reporting staff who will be handling the majority of day-to-day issues.

Warehouse Management

12. Management of the warehouse, ensuring that reporting staff can meet objectives in processing IT equipment efficiently and stock is well organised to maximise the availability of space.

Human Resources

13. Acting as the initial point of contact for staff for annual leave, sickness recording etc. and maintaining the recording system for these.

14. Management of inductions for new members of staff.

You may from time to time also need to support other responsibilities as required by management in-line

with the growth of the organisation to make the most of opportunities as they arise.

To thrive in this role you should:

● Be an assistant operations manager that can bring about the best from your team and our volunteers.

● Have strong management skills with the ability to manage multiple employees, temporary staff and coordinate with volunteers as needed.

● Have strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.

● Have the attitude that if you don’t know how something works, you’ll learn how to do it.

● Have the ability to take ownership in all aspects of the role, working without close supervision and demonstrating effective self-management.

● A good knowledge of IT - enabling you to quickly learn and manage our IT processes.

● Experience of operations management, preferably within the IT industry or suitable transferable skills from other industries.

● Familiarity with Salesforce or be a quick learner.

● Good verbal and written communication skills.

Post Information

● Ideally a full-time position at 35 hours a week, from 9-5, Monday to Friday with an hour lunch break; however, this is negotiable.

● Salary will be dependent on experience, please send your salary expectations with your cover letter.

● Permanent position with a 6-month probation period.
