An exciting opportunity has arisen for an accomplished and inspirational Head Vet to join a modern, purpose-built veterinary practice in Lincoln. As the surgery’s senior clinician and a key member of the leadership team, the Head Vet is responsible for consistently driving exceptional customer service and outstanding clinical care, while actively promoting pet wellbeing, delivering preventive services, and treating sick and injured pets.
The role leads the continuous improvement of the surgery’s clinical capability and the upskilling of colleagues, supporting the ambition to become a centre of clinical excellence. In doing so, the Head Vet plays a pivotal role in driving performance, turnover and profitability, while shaping and unifying the clinical culture of the practice.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People
* Collaborate with the leadership team to create an environment where colleagues are engaged, supported and motivated.
* Lead, manage and develop all Veterinary Surgeons (including locums), ensuring effective utilisation of time and expertise.
* Foster a strong learning culture, agreeing CPD plans, monitoring effectiveness and encouraging knowledge sharing.
* Support the Nurse team in undertaking Schedule 3 activities.
* Oversee recruitment, induction and support of Vets, including new graduates progressing through the Vet GDP programme.
* Conduct regular 1:1 meetings, participate in performance management processes and provide coaching to drive continuous improvement.
* Facilitate regular case discussions and communication of clinical initiatives.
Skills & Experience
* An experienced, well-rounded GP Vet with a strong diagnostic-first approach.
* Proven experience in clinical governance, audit and leading clinical improvement.
* Ability to coach and develop clinicians to achieve their full potential.
* Strong organisational skills and commercial awareness.
* An engaging communicator who builds trust and credibility quickly.
* Professional, confident and calm, demonstrating empathy, resilience and positive leadership in a fast-paced environment.
Flexibility is essential, including willingness to provide cover where required (by prior agreement).
Working Pattern
* 4 days per week
* 1 in 4 weekends
* No routine out-of-hours requirement
* 1 hour protected administrative time per shift
