Transport Planner
Location: Nuneaton
Salary: £34,000 per annum plus 22 days holiday (including bank holidays), pension, bonus, life assurance, employee assistance programme, wellbeing support, and flexible benefits including cycle to work scheme.
About the Role
As a Transport Planner, you will be the driving force ensuring our centralised planning function runs smoothly, delivering on‑time and cost‑effective transport services that keep our customers delighted.
You will manage resources effectively, tackling everything from daily operations to unexpected challenges such as volume spikes, holidays, and sickness to consistently hit delivery and on‑time KPIs.
Key responsibilities include:
* Create and maintain a cost‑effective route plan for multiple sites/contracts across the UK, ensuring high levels of service measured against defined KPIs.
* Plan journeys and understand resource capability without the aid of a TMS system, using strong geographical and planning experience to visualise planned routes.
* React, shuffle, and constantly optimise the plan to respond to volume changes, job adjustments, or other determining factors, ensuring the plan is the most optimal at all times.
* Identify opportunities for inter‑site collaboration and networking to fill empty network capacity, remove dead mileage, and reduce sub‑contracting costs.
* Maintain high‑level communication with customers, drivers, and Unipart colleagues to ensure full awareness of plans and resources.
* Apply continuous improvement methodology in transport management operations to deliver service and cost improvement.
About You

* Strong planning and organisational skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a good attention to detail.
* Strong team player that can also work independently.
* Excellent IT skills in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suites.
* Understanding of Transport and/or Distribution.
* Transport, planning & operational knowledge desirable.
* Strong knowledge of UK geography advantageous but not essential.
