Position Overview
Vacancy at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust – an exciting cardiothoracic surgery role that offers a stepping stone to careers in multiple specialities. You will work in a supportive department with a strong focus on developing surgical skills to CST level, reaching competency in vein harvest, sternotomy, thoracotomy, and minor thoracic surgery procedures.
Responsibilities
* Expose to emergency and elective cardiothoracic surgery procedures, including endoscopic vein harvesting, major aortic surgery, VATS lobectomies and other highly specialised work.
* Support outpatient clinics and a satellite clinic at a local hospital.
* Participate in on‑call rota (ST 1/2 equivalent).
* Assist with general cardiothoracic surgery, transplant (including opportunity to join the retrieval team), advanced cardiorespiratory support devices (LVAD/ECMO), aortic surgery and minimally invasive thoracic surgery.
* Contribute to research and service improvement projects.
* Perform ward, theatre and clinic duties across the department.
Qualifications
* GMC registration or eligibility to work in posts that are not recognised for training.
* Competency or desire to achieve competency to CST level in vein harvest, sternotomy, thoracotomy and minor thoracic surgery procedures.
* Commitment to support a dynamic, research‑oriented cardiothoracic surgery and heart‑and‑lung transplant department.
