Structural Clinical Nurse Specialist

Band 7

Fixed Term (12 months)

We have an amazing opportunity for an experienced nurse to join our world leading team at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. The post holder will deliver high-quality nursing care to patients with structural heart disease.

Main duties of the job

·

To have excellent communication with patients, their families, colleagues, and other members of the internal and external multidisciplinary team.

To manage a caseload of patients with structural heart disease, from initial referral to follow-up after their intervention procedure.

To work autonomously and collaboratively in both Consultant-led and Nurse-led Structural clinics.

To be a member of the ward-based Structural heart team; reviewing patients pre and post structural intervention and providing support to nursing staff.

Be an active member of the valve multidisciplinary team meeting; advocating for patients and enacting the MDT plans.

To undertake regular teaching, training, and mentorship of the nursing team in the provision of care for Structural heart disease patients.

To actively participate in and promote research and service improvement and development.

The post holder will be based at Barts Heart Centre.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria

1. 5 years post registration experience
2. 2 or more years working at AFC Band 6 or band 7 within cardiology.
3. Experience of looking after patients with heart valve disease
4. Evidence of teaching and mentoring
5. Experience of patient education
6. Clinical and operational management experience.

Desirable criteria

7. Previous experience of working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist
8. Research and audit experience

Skills

Essential criteria

9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with MDT, patients, and their carers.
10. Ability to work as part of team as well autonomously without supervision.
11. Ability to prioritise and organise work to manage a caseload of patients.
12. Proven oral and written communication skills.
13. Demonstrates managerial, organisational and leadership skills

Desirable criteria

14. Previous experience of writing standard operating protocols.
15. Ability to manage change

Knowledge

Essential criteria

16. Expert Knowledge of the current guidelines for the management and treatment options of heart valve disease

Desirable criteria

17. Knowledge of the inpatient and out-patient referral systems.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

18. Registered Nurse
19. BSc or equivalent
20. Relevant post graduate cardiac course
21. Mentorship/ post registration teaching

Desirable criteria

22. Possession of or working towards Masters
23. Physical assessment course or willing to work towards when in post.
