About the job
As a Community Development Co-ordinator, you will design and deliver engagement activity aimed at improving recycling, reducing waste and strengthening pride in student communities across Cardiff.
You will lead on student‑focused communication and engagement campaigns, working closely with universities, student unions, landlords, residents, councillors and internal council teams. The role blends on‑ground engagement with the creation of high‑quality digital and printed communications, monitoring campaign impact and continually improving how we reach student audiences.
This is a varied, outward‑facing role that suits someone who enjoys working with communities, managing multiple projects and making complex information clear and engaging.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and deliver student-focused waste minimisation and recycling engagement campaigns.
* Coordinate and deliver activities that encourage positive behaviour change around waste and recycling.
* Work with internal and external partners, including universities, student bodies, landlords and residents, to design and implement targeted initiatives.
* Create engaging digital content for websites, social media and other communication channels, ensuring compliance with Welsh Language requirements.
* Design and distribute educational materials online, door-to-door and at events.
* Monitor, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of engagement activities, including consultation and data collection.
* Build and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders, including councillors, police and community partners.
* Maintain accurate records and provide statistical and written reports as required.
* Keep up to date with Council waste and recycling policies and procedures and refer non‑compliance appropriately.
* Support volunteering activity and initiatives that improve local communities.

You will be able to quickly adapt to technologies used by the service, operate in line with Council Policies and Procedures, and maintain the reputation of the Council by adopting a professional and courteous approach.
