Job summary
This full‑time 10PA consultant post is based at Oak Park, Havant, within HIOW NHS Trust Core & Community CAMHS division. The role provides senior clinical leadership and specialist psychiatric care for children and young people aged 0–18, working within a well established multidisciplinary team that includes other consultants, specialty doctors, non‑medical prescribers, psychologists and therapists. The post holder delivers assessment, treatment and case management, with 5 PAs of face‑to‑face clinical work and additional time for clinical meetings, correspondence and consultation. The document notes that the consultant will "provide mental health assessment, treatment and case management to referred children and young people aged 0–18 years."
The role includes participation in the daily duty consultant rota (11:00–15:00), supervision of trainees, and involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The consultant will also contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, and service development. There will be 7.5 PAs of DCC and 2.5 PAs for SPA.
The post participates in the 1:12 out of hours CAMHS on‑call rota, covering Section 136 suites and supporting crisis and liaison teams. Strong administrative, IT and business support are provided, weekly consultant supervision. The role requires Approved Clinician status and a commitment to safeguarding, multidisciplinary collaboration and high quality, evidence‑based care.
Key responsibilities
* Consultants are key case‑holders/care‑coordinators for complex or high‑risk cases only very rarely – the vast majority of complex/high‑risk cases are managed by other MDT colleagues providing care‑coordinator function.
* If the post‑holder takes up the role of educational and clinical supervisor for a medical trainee, the time for psychiatric supervision will be accounted in SPA as per the guidance from the Royal College of Psychiatrists and adopted by HIOWH.
* SPA time will include, as per the National Consultant Contract, any ARs (additional responsibilities) and EDs (external duties) agreed between the post‑holder, Service Manager, and the ACD/CD/Lead Clinician, as part of the post‑holder's portfolio of duties.
* The post holder will, along with consultant colleagues and other senior MDT clinical leads, balance the demand for scheduled and unscheduled clinical care and participate, along with the other consultants, in the daily duty consultant rota (11:00 am–3:00 pm Mon–Fri during the working week).
* Record and communicate such activity as appropriate according to best practice and Trust requirements.
* Balance demand for both scheduled and unscheduled clinical care in collaboration with colleagues and service managers.
* Participate in team and peer clinical supervision and co‑working arrangements.
* Join the local Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists' peer supervision and continuing professional development group.
Qualifications
* Recognised basic Medical Degree
* MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* Eligible for inclusion on the Specialist register or CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (or within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview)
* Recognised training in child and adolescent psychiatry for at least 3 years as per the RC Psych CAP curriculum 2022) UGME education skills
* Recognised and approved Educational & Clinical Supervisor UGME
