Senior Interior Designer / Interior Architect
Essex-based studio with UK travel
Some studios talk about ideas. Others take responsibility for getting them built.
Modus Careers is working with a design studio where hospitality projects are carried through from first sketch to final sign-off on site. Based in a converted mill in the Essex countryside, our client is known for delivering brand-led hospitality environments that work commercially, technically and operationally. This is not a decorative practice, and it is not a concept-only studio. Design here is judged by how it performs once the doors open.
They are now looking to appoint a Senior Interior Designer or Interior Architect who is comfortable owning projects in the real world. Someone who understands that hospitality design lives and dies in the detail, on site, under programme and budget pressure. This is a senior, hands-on role for a designer who wants influence, autonomy and accountability.
The immediate focus is a large-scale hospitality rollout programme, typically ten to fourteen live sites per year. You will act as the design lead across multiple projects, taking responsibility for design development, technical coordination, FF&E, client liaison and on-site delivery through to handover. Travel is part of the job, and being present on site is non-negotiable.
This role is not studio-bound. It is not a CGI or visualisation-led position. It suits someone who enjoys being involved where decisions matter, who understands construction sequencing, who can speak confidently with contractors and who takes pride in seeing work delivered properly.
The role
* Leading hospitality projects from concept through to site delivery and completion
* Translating brand briefs into buildable, technically resolved design solutions
* Producing and overseeing technical drawing packages and schedules
* Leading FF&E specification, procurement and coordination
* Supporting contract administration and attending site meetings
* Managing relationships with clients, contractors and suppliers
* Travelling nationwide to oversee quality, progress and delivery
The background
* Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture
* Proven experience delivering commercial or hospitality interiors
* Strong technical understanding of construction, detailing and joinery
* Hands-on experience supporting contract administration and working on site
* Confidence managing multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously
* Proficiency in AutoCAD, Photoshop and InDesign
* Full UK driving licence
What’s on offer
* Salary up to £50,000 depending on experience
* 25 days annual leave
* Performance-related bonuses paid twice yearly
* Tailored development plans with mentoring and CPDs
* Immediate exposure to brand-led hospitality projects across the UK
This role suits a senior designer who wants trust, responsibility and a seat at the table. Someone who values the full lifecycle of a project and enjoys seeing their work built, signed off and operating successfully.
For the right person, this is a long-term opportunity within a studio that genuinely respects both creativity and delivery.
