Following a restructure, we’re delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to join our small and friendly Financial Services team as a Finance Business Partner. This is an ideal time to join us and play a key role in shaping the team and the way we support the Authority in the future.

These important roles provide professional financial expertise across a wide range of services, helping us deliver an efficient, effective and proactive financial function for the Authority.

What you’ll be doing

As one of our Finance Business Partners, you will:

1. Manage and support a Finance Assistant.
2. Provide clear, robust financial advice to budget holders and senior officers.
3. Set budgets, carry out budget monitoring and close the accounts for your assigned services.
4. Lead on ad hoc projects and tasks within Financial Services.
5. Jointly lead on the Council’s insurance claims and renewals together with fellow Finance Business Partners.
6. Pro-actively seek opportunities to enhance financial support across the Council and contribute to service efficiencies.

You will also take responsibility for a selection of specialist areas, which may include:

7. Fixed Assets and Capital Accounting
8. VAT, Partial Exemption and other tax advice
9. Treasury Management and Cash Flow Forecasting
10. Financial Systems
11. Section 106
12. Government Returns

About you

We’re looking for someone who can bring professional expertise, curiosity, and a proactive approach, You will:

13. Be CCAB qualified, part-qualified and working towards accreditation, or have extensive experience in an equivalent role and be able to demonstrate a comparable level of knowledge and capability.
14. Have a strong technical understanding of Local Government accounting.
15. Possess excellent numeracy skills with strong attention to detail.
16. Have excellent problem-solving skills.
17. Be an effective communicator, able to explain complex financial matters clearly to non-finance colleagues.
18. Have extensive knowledge of MS Office, with advanced Excel skills, and experience working with financial software.
19. Ideally have some prior management experience.
20. Be committed to delivering a high-quality service.
