Job Overview
The Environment Agency is recruiting for a fixed‑term Energy Advisor (up to 2 years) to support the regulation of combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. The role involves providing technical leadership, developing regulatory strategy, and ensuring environmental outcomes in line with the UK’s Net Zero goals.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for the energy sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development, and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, trade associations and other industry players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during incidents.
Experience & Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, encouraging consideration of diversity issues.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, with experience of regulation in the energy sector and control measures for emissions.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies, and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
Logistics and Conditions
