Overview
Principal Flood Modeller role at AECOM, United Kingdom. This position focuses on leading flood modelling projects and mentoring junior staff within the Water team, with a flexible hybrid working model.
Responsibilities
* Technical Expert: Lead the estimation of flood flows using established methodologies in the Flood Estimations Handbook. Develop and check hydraulic models (using packages such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS and InfoWorks ICM) to assist the design of flood alleviation schemes, flood risk assessments, river restoration projects or the Environment Agency’s flood maps.
* Deliver: Lead and input into tenders ranging from innovative one-off projects to multimillion-pound framework contracts. Produce and review high-quality technical reports documenting model build and uncertainties in the model build process. Conceptualise and scope modelling and hydrological approaches, with consideration of the risks and opportunities in each.
* Collaborate: Work closely with clients and teams of engineers and technical specialists to deliver a wide range of fluvial, coastal, surface water or drainage flood risk management projects.
* Lead: Mentor staff within the team to support their professional development and build relationships with clients and across other technical disciplines.
* Quality: Stay up-to-date with developments in legislation and guidelines affecting services. Use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver high-quality outputs to clients in line with agreed programmes and budgets.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or another relevant discipline.
* Obtained or close to obtaining professional qualification with CIWEM or similar.
* Significant experience in hydraulic modelling software (Flood Modeller and/ or TUFLOW) and hydrological assessments using FEH and REFH2.
* Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements in preparing flood models for flood risk assessments.
* Strong GIS skills using QGIS, ArcGIS and/or MapInfo.
* Experience with other modelling types and software would be advantageous (e.g., flood forecasting modelling or water quality modelling using Mike 11).
