At Wirral CYP MHS, we are working together with families and community services to improve mental health through accessible, inclusive, specialist care and support to increase children and young people’s potential and life chances

This vacancy is for a 12-month part-time (30 hours) maternity cover. We seek to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic individual who is passionate about CYP mental health. You will be a qualified EMHP/ CYP Wellbeing Practitioner (registered with a professional body) and have experience of working in a CYP Mental Health Support Team. You will also be or currently study to become a Senior Wellbeing Practitioner. Because of the temporary nature of this post, there is no opportunity for the successful applicant to commence the course within 12 months of starting the post.

The purpose of the mental health support team is to promote positive Mental Well-Being as well as Positive Mental Health. The main focus of Mental health Support teams is:

To provide support and advice to school staff through consultation and training

To work with children and young people 1-1 or through group work

To support schools in their development of a Whole School Approach to Mental Health.

This role will involve remote working/ hybrid working however there will be a requirement to work from the office on certain days.

Planned shortlist date is 30 December and planned interview date is 5 January 2026.


Main duties of the job

The senior EMHP/ CYWP role for MHST will be to support the delivery of all interventions provided by Education Mental Health Practitioners and Children and Young people’s Wellbeing Practitioners, ensuring that a wide range of evidence based interventions are used to support young people’s mental health. You will support leadership and will be involved in the development of the MHST alongside the Clinical Lead, Team Manager and Clinical Coordinator, supervising practitioners and coordinating a cluster of Education Mental Health practitioners and Children and Young People Wellbeing Practitioners. The senior EMHP/ CYWP will also hold a small caseload.

Person specification


Qualifications


Essential criteria

* Qualified Post Graduate Certificate or above from a provider university as part of the CYP-IAPT programme e.g. EMHP, CWP
* Professional registration with recognised National Body (BPS, BABCP)
* Senior Wellbeing Practitioner Course or willing to undertake course within 12 months of appointment.
* Nationally recognised post-qualification, continuous professional development (CPD) related to EMHP/CWP


Desirable criteria

* Therapeutic Training to intermediate / diploma level


Knowledge


Essential criteria

* Demonstrable working knowledge of specialist therapeutic approaches e.g. CBT, Family Therapy
* Knowledge of Child Protection workings and Practice
* Working knowledge of Children related legislation
* Experience of inter-agency working
* Experience of writing, implementing and evaluating Care / Treatment Plans
* Experience of providing clinical supervision


Desirable criteria

* Experience of working with Students/ Learners

Essential criteria

* Significant post qualification experience of working within a CYPMHS or Child Mental Health related field.
* Undertaking formal and informal clinical risk assessments and risk management planning
* Undertaking Mental Health Assessments
* IT skills, including using databases, Microsoft Office and clinical systems


Desirable criteria

* Post qualifying experience of working within NHS community CYPMHS
* Recognised experience of working within an environment where evidence based interventions have been delivered
