SEMH Teacher

An alternative provision secondary school in Preston is currently seeking a committed and compassionate SEN Teacher to join their team on a temporary to permanent basis via an education recruitment agency. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and is looking for a long-term position within a specialist setting.

The school provides education for pupils with a range of special educational needs, primarily social, emotional and mental health needs, alongside additional learning and behavioural needs. The provision follows a TEC-style model, placing a strong emphasis on therapeutic practice, emotional regulation, consistency and relationship-building to support pupils who may have experienced trauma or disruption to their education. Class sizes are small, allowing staff to deliver highly personalised learning and support.

As a Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the academic, social and emotional needs of pupils. You will adapt the curriculum to suit individual abilities, interests and education plans, while maintaining clear structure, boundaries and high expectations. You will work closely with teaching assistants, behaviour support staff, therapists and senior leaders to ensure a consistent and joined-up approach to pupil support.

The role also involves monitoring progress, contributing to reviews and meetings, maintaining accurate records, and supporting pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement. Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils is central to the role, alongside effective communication with colleagues, external professionals and families where appropriate.

The successful candidate will:

* Hold QTS or QTLS, or be an experienced unqualified teacher with a strong background in SEN or alternative provision

* Have proven experience working with pupils with SEN, SEMH or complex behavioural needs

* Be confident managing challenging behaviour using a calm, trauma-informed approach

* Demonstrate flexibility, resilience and a genuine commitment to pupil wellbeing

* Be able to adapt teaching strategies to suit a range of learning styles and needs

* Be seeking a temp to perm opportunity with the intention of securing a permanent role

In return, the school offers a supportive and collaborative working environment, strong leadership, and a clear focus on staff wellbeing and professional development. The agency placement provides competitive daily rates, with the opportunity to transition to a permanent contract following a successful temporary period.

This role would suit an SEN Teacher who is passionate about making a meaningful difference to the lives of young people who require additional support to succeed in education.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
