18th May, 2026 Job Title: Housing Team Leader Type: Permanent Location: Head Office with travel to various locations within Birmingham Salary: £35,786 to £37,786 depending on qualifications and experience Hours: Full time - 35 hours per week with flexibility to occasionally work outside normal office hours to meet business needs BRC are working closely with a charity in Birmingham to help recruit for a Housing Team Leader on a Permanent basis. This role involves overseeing the team's delivery of a professional and effective general housing management and specific support services to residents over 60 or 55 with a disability living in our independent and supported living schemes and almshouse accommodation dispersed around the Birmingham area. Duties: Support the Head of Service in developing and implementing strategic plans, projects, and initiatives for housing and property services. Manage the day-to-day operations of a small team, including rotas, lone working systems, leave, expenses, and first-line performance, sickness, disciplinary, and capability management. Promote staff development through regular one-to-ones and identifying training needs. Help deliver a compliant, person-centred housing and neighbourhood management service for adults aged 55 in supported, independent living, and almshouse accommodation. Oversee void property management, tenancy endings, compliance checks, allocations, and minimising rent loss, debts, and repair costs. Manage allocations in line with the Housing Act and policy, including waiting lists, suitability assessments, lettings, and statutory CORE returns. Deputise for the Head of Housing in managing Birmingham City Council nominations agreements and Choice Based Lettings processes. Ensure residents receive effective, risk-based support plans through collaborative multi-agency working. Lead on tenancy breach management, including ASB, nuisance, hoarding, and legal enforcement where necessary. Support the handling of Stage 1 complaints, investigations, and regulatory compliance. Assist with rent and service charge setting and oversee income management and arrears enforcement processes. Ensure health and safety compliance through inspections, risk assessments, and corrective actions. Monitor contractor and telecare service performance to ensure quality and value for residents. Organise resident wellbeing, engagement, and consultation activities. Maintain safeguarding responsibilities, accurate records, compliance with policies, and safe working practices. Commit to ongoing professional development and undertake additional duties as required within the role's scope. Requirements: Satisfactory general education at level 2 or above that is relevant to the role To have, be working towards, or capable / willing to work towards a relevant professional qualification (Minimum CIH L4) While at least 12 months working in a senior or management role would be desirable A minimum of 3 years' experience delivering social housing services is essential, desirably with providing customer support services to vulnerable residents. At least 12 months in a senior role would be desirable. In depth knowledge and understanding of relevant housing legislation, regulation and good practice is essential, desirably including that specifically for supported housing. Good understanding of the state welfare benefit system is essential, desirably in relation to older persons benefits. Ability to use all key IT systems and virtual meeting and messaging platforms independently and effectively, including lone working systems Full valid UK driving license, with a suitably insured and roadworthy vehicle for use every working day Experience of service improvement and development, including consultation and engagement. (desirable) Experience of contractor management (desirable) Experience of legal enforcement processes in a social housing setting, including attendance at Civil County Court hearings (desirable) Ability to speak a second language to English, including sign language and / or interpretation services (desirable) For more information, please call Meg Smith on 02920 231000 or 01179 239100.
