Life. Unlimited. At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living.
We’re investing in the future of surgical intervention and post-operative therapy, and this is your opportunity to be part of something truly impactful. As an Incision Specialist covering the North East (ideally based near Newcastle, Sunderland or Middlesbrough), you’ll play a key role in shaping how we deliver advanced post-surgical solutions to the NHS and their patients within the Hospital setting. This is a fantastic next step for someone with proven experience in medical device sales, looking to deepen their clinical impact and grow their career in a purpose-led organisation.
What will you be doing?
You’ll be driving sales and profit across our post-operative therapy portfolio by building strong relationships with key decision-makers. From Surgeons to Clinical Directors to Theatre Managers and Procurement Leads, you’ll engage a wide range of stakeholders to deliver system change proposals and secure long-term partnerships.
You’ll work collaboratively with your local team and our Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine cross-functional teams to develop and execute a territory business plan; win new Dept and Hospital accounts through surgical intervention / post-operative incision protocols, grow sales with existing protocols, and protect key relationships. You’ll lead clinical training sessions, product demos, and partnership reviews to ensure safe and effective product use, while continuously developing your selling and product knowledge through field coaching and training.
You’ll stay sharp on market trends, competitor activity, and purchasing protocols, using approved value based, budget impact models, marketing materials and CRM tools to track progress and opportunities. Whether it’s building business cases, driving new protocols supporting commercial wins, or identifying new leads, you’ll be influencing how care is delivered and helping improve post-operative patient outcomes, every single day.
What will you need to be successful?
You’ll bring a strong commercial mindset and a deep understanding of the healthcare landscape. You’ll be confident navigating hospital environments, and comfortable engaging with clinical and procurement stakeholders. You’ll thrive if you:
1. Have at least 2 years of proven sales experience in the medical devices sector
2. Understand the challenges and opportunities within the NHS
3. Have experience across hospital settings, ideally including theatres and procurement
4. Are confident developing business plans, using budget impact models and presenting value based solutions
You. Unlimited.
