Location: Hybrid – Work from home or from one of our office locations in Selby, Richmond, Scarborough, Malton, Northallerton, Skipton, or Harrogate, with an expectation of attending the NYBCP Head Office at Easingwold when required.

As Principal Building Control Surveyor within the North Yorkshire Councils Building Control team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of building control in North Yorkshire. We are seeking a motivated leader ready to make a tangible impact in driving safety, sustainability, and innovation across the built environment.
Responsibilities
The Role
As Principal Building Control Surveyor, you will lead and oversee complex, high-profile building control projects across North Yorkshire, ensuring they meet all regulatory requirements. You’ll guide a dynamic team of professionals, providing strategic leadership, shaping policy, and continuously improving service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
* Leadership & Operational Excellence: Lead a talented team of building control professionals, driving high standards of service and performance, while ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements.
* Complex Project Oversight: Manage large-scale, complex building control applications and projects, ensuring compliance with building regulations, and overseeing their successful delivery.
* Enforcement & Regulatory Compliance: Lead investigations into dangerous structures and unauthorized works, implementing enforcement actions as necessary to maintain safety and integrity.
* Team Development & Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to the building control team, fostering a culture of continuous professional development and high service standards.
* Strategic Influence & Innovation: Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and best practices that enhance the effectiveness of building control services and promote continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
* Educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated learning.
* Registered with the Building Safety Regulator at least Class 2A: Building Inspector as per the HSE Building Inspector Competency Framework (BICoF).
* Corporate membership of professional bodies such as RICS, CABE, CIOB, or equivalent.
