Job overview
· To oversee Acute Specialist Medicine wards alongside another Matron from a managerial and clinical perspective, ensuring the smooth running of the units in conjunction with the ward managers.
· Monitoring and measuring the quality of care provided, and taking necessary steps to improve care and related processes when issues are identified.
· Developing improvement plans, SOPs, research facilities, and studies, and aligning resources to demands.
· Providing sound clinical leadership and developing support mechanisms for sharing good practice within the units and Trust-wide.
· Full responsibilities for the relevant nursing budget in conjunction with the senior nurse.
· Providing education, expertise, and mentorship to peers and junior staff members. Conducting audits to ensure positive outcomes and identify areas for learning.
Main duties of the job
To work as a highly specialised team member to promote safe, effective, and responsive management. The post holder must communicate effectively with staff within the Trust, external organizations, and the public.
* Overseeing annual leave and sickness, ensuring policy compliance, and managing individual performance as required.
· Ability to communicate effectively in demanding situations.
Translating the Trust’s vision and Nursing Strategy into a motivating narrative with clear objectives for care delivery.
· Gathering feedback from patients, service users, and colleagues to develop services.
· Delegating work appropriately and holding staff accountable for delivery.
· Teaching and mentoring staff, including juniors, students, and other disciplines.
· Managing and delivering within deadlines and resources.
· Ensuring staff have up-to-date appraisals and development plans.
· Being professionally accountable for work quality and care standards.
Leading recruitment and selection of staff.
