Responsibilities
* Contribute to a variety of projects involving electrical, control, and instrumentation design from concept to manufacturing readiness.
* Rotate through departments to contribute to important projects, learning from experienced colleagues.
* Develop expertise in electrical engineering, including drawings, calculations, specifications, schedules, and technical reports.
* Produce technical documentation to support design and development of nuclear engineering solutions.
* Evaluate designs for risks and hazards, focusing on nuclear and radiological safety.
* Gain hands-on experience with design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks.
* Receive training in Electrical Safety and BS7671 (IET Wiring Regulations).
Your education and training
You will undertake the Product Design and Development Engineer (Degree) Apprenticeship, delivered through blended learning with three-day block in-person delivery at the start of each semester and weekly online sessions. The programme integrates materials science, CAD, systems integration, and prototyping to prepare for regulated environments. On successful completion, you will be awarded a BEng (Hons) degree accredited by the Engineering Council, alongside a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship qualification.
Future prospects
At the end of the programme you will be equipped to move into an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineering role within Cavendish Nuclear. You may pursue professional registration as Incorporated or Chartered Engineer and explore senior engineering roles. The organisation provides opportunities for career progression and supports development through the Babcock Role Framework.
What you’ll need
* Eligibility for the accelerated apprenticeship: Level 5 HND in Engineering with Merit; Level 5 Nuclear Technician Apprenticeship with Merit; or prior experience in a technical/engineering role in the engineering or nuclear industry.
