Course Summary
VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical and Media Make-up is a technical level qualification aimed at learners who wish to pursue a career as an employed and/or self-employed make-up artist providing hair and make-up services in the media, theatre and performing arts, fashion, and photographic industries.
Learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy, physiology, and health and safety. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients, successfully promote and retail products, and provide a range of creative make-up services in media, theatre, fashion, and photographic settings. Learners will also style and fit hair pieces and apply false eyelashes as well as understand the related cosmetic science that underpins the subject. In parallel
Learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, awareness of environmental sustainability and commercial skills, which employers value highly. Problem-solving and research skills will also be developed
This course is equivalent to an A level; therefore, you need to select two other subjects.

Course Details
Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include:
- Health and safety in the salon
- Cosmetic makeup science
- Media make-up
- Style and fit postiche
- Photographic make-up
- Anatomy and physiology for make-up services
- Airbrush make-up
- Cosmetic camouflage
- False eyelash application
How will it be delivered and assessed?
There will be 2 external examinations, a graded practical assessment for each unit, a graded synoptic assessment, and a service portfolio.
Entry requirements
Hold a Level 2 Diploma in hairdressing or barbering and preferably Grade 4 or above in English, Maths and Science. Have a genuine interest in the industry.

Learners who achieve this qualification are eligible to become members of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) or the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).
