Central Administrative Assistant (Pooled Resource) – Fixed Term (2 Year)
Pray, Grow, Serve 2035 is the Diocese of Exeter’s 10‑year vision to deepen prayer, make new disciples and serve the people of Devon with joy. The programme is supported by a £10m grant from the Church of England’s Strategic Mission and Ministry Investment Board (SMMIB), with a further phase of funding to be sought in 2028. As the Diocese embarks on this significant period of mission and organisational development, strengthening central operational capacity is essential.
To support this, the Diocese is appointing two Central Administrative Assistants who will form a pooled administrative resource for the Senior Management Team (SMT) and central departments. The aim is to reduce day‑to‑day administrative friction, improve consistency of service, and provide resilience during busy periods, staff absence and major organisational events.
The roles are practical, varied and people‑focused. Typical responsibilities include meeting and diary support, minuting and action tracking, travel and event logistics, routine PA‑type communications, front‑of‑house hospitality, records management, shared mailbox triage and general administrative tasks. The assistants will also provide surge capacity during peak delivery periods such as reporting cycles, major events or temporary vacancies.
Work is allocated through a central triage process, ensuring clear priorities and avoiding conflicting instructions.
While the roles may support projects administratively, they do not carry project coordination responsibility.
The Diocese is seeking confident, adaptable administrators with strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a friendly, professional approach. Competence in Microsoft 365, the ability to manage competing demands calmly, and discretion when handling confidential information are essential. A flexible, “can‑do” attitude and willingness to support both practical and administrative tasks will be key to success.
There are two positions available to undertake these roles.
