As the Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading my client's engineering team, dedicated to delivering innovative automation solutions for the Frame and Truss industry. This position requires a strong background in manufacturing automation, engineering leadership, and a deep understanding of safety along with relevant industry standards and guidelines. You will leverage your technical expertise, leadership skills, and project management abilities to drive engineering excellence and advance our company's mission.
Your new role
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)
* Oversee engineering project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring engineering projects align with company goals and customer needs.
* Plan, coordinate, and execute R&D projects for automated integrated machinery, ensuring they are completed within agreed scope, time, and budget.
* Identify and mitigate potential risks and roadblocks in the project lifecycle.
* Work closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, project management, R&D, Production & Service/Support, to define project requirements and deliverables.
* Manage resource allocation, including hiring, training, and retaining top engineering talent.
* Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and create development plans for team members.
* Engage with customers to identify new opportunities and business ideas.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team productivity and product quality.
* Stay up to date with industry trends, technologies and legislation.
* Implement and refine engineering processes to enhance the efficiency, quality, and scalability of solutions, while ensuring compliance with legislative requirements in the department.
* Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability within the engineering team.
* Report to senior management and implement company strategic plans.
What you'll need to succeed
Essential Skills and Qualifications
* Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics, accredited by Engineers Australia as eligible for Professional Engineer membership.
* Proven experience in a leadership role within an engineering or R&D team.
* Strong technical background with hands‑on experience in automation technologies, design, programming languages, and relevant tools.
* Excellent project management skills, with a track record of successfully delivering the design of bespoke automated machinery.
* Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
* Strong problem‑solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing challenges.
* Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineering talent.
* Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.
Employment Experience
* Experience with manufacturing automated machinery.
* At least five years of experience in a similar role.
What you’ll get in return
This is a permanent role which will pay between $160,000 and $180,000 + Super and a potential bonus of up to $20,000.
