Overview
Job summary: An exciting opportunity to join the Northumbria UGI Services as a Band 6 UGI Nurse Specialist to work full time (37.5 hours per week). The Band 6 Nurse Specialist will work within a small but dynamic team caring for patients referred for bariatric and benign surgery, endoscopy and oesophageal physiology procedures. This will involve streamlining the patient pathway and working closely with the wider UGI team, endoscopy departments, dietetics, psychology, radiology, pathology, MDT coordinators, GP practices, and district nursing teams.
Main duties
Provide skilled and knowledgeable care and advice to patients and their carers. Complete assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation of direct care to patients undergoing investigation, benign or bariatric surgery. Work with all members of the multidisciplinary team. Engage with external agencies to provide a high-quality service for patients and their carers. Contribute to the development of high-quality services within Northumbria Healthcare.

Responsibilities
* Provide specialist nursing with a defined caseload for benign patients including the setting of standards of care, assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
* Act as a link between the MDT and other primary and secondary care providers to provide a seamless pathway of care to patients across all Upper GI services.
* Provide a nursing contribution to policy and clinical service development within the upper GI service.
* Contribute to the Trust strategic agenda.
* Act as a key point of contact to ensure timely care and treatment for all patients on an upper GI pathway.
* Delivery of review/benign outpatient clinics.
* Support the Upper GI Consultant Surgeons in results clinics.
* Role model compassionate and inclusive leadership to shape a collective leadership culture within the Trust, including engaging, enabling and empowering others, coaching for ownership of learning and quality improvement, and facilitating team working across departments and boundaries.

Qualifications
* 1st Level live NMC required Registered Nurse
* Registered Mentor
* PP126/127 or equivalent
* D32/33
* Degree supplemented by diploma level specialist training and experience or equivalent
* Evidence of qualification to undertake supervision, teaching and assessing of students (essential, to be completed within 18 months)
Desirable
* Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
Experience & Knowledge
* Essential: Significant experience in specialty
* Desirable: Experience in Benign upper GI specialty; Experience of patients on a cancer pathway; Special interest in training for Endoscopy clinical/Benign technical procedures
Other Requirements
* Essential: Valid driving licence and ability to use a car for work, or a Trust personal lease vehicle; reasonable adjustments possible to enable a disabled person to undertake the role
