Key Responsibilities
Software Development
* Plan, design, and implement secure, scalable APIs and backend services
* Write testable, modular, and extensible code following established standards
* Optimise application performance and support high-availability requirements
* Contribute to system design decisions and architectural discussions
* Participate in code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices
Cloud & Infrastructure
* Support the migration of services from GCP to AWS
* Work with containerised applications using Kubernetes and Docker
* Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines
Collaboration & Quality
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and deliver technical solutions
* Contribute to the development of team best practices and standards
* Incorporate automated testing into development workflow
* Mentor junior team members and share technical knowledge
Requirements
Essential
* 5+ years of software engineering experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
* Strong experience with at least one JVM-based language (Kotlin or Java)
* Demonstrable experience building secure, scalable backend solutions
* Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred, GCP or Azure acceptable)
* Proficiency with containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker)
* Strong understanding of RESTful API design and microservice architecture
* Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL)
* Proficiency with version control (Git) and CI/CD practices
* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in teams
* Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Desired
* Experience with backend development
* Experience with PHP
* Familiarity with data engineering concepts: ETL processes, data pipelines, data modelling
* Experience with Databricks, PySpark, or Airflow
* Knowledge of GraphQL
* Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies
* Experience mentoring engineers
