Background and Context
IT Services (ITS) forms a key part of the new Infrastructure Services Directorate, which comprises both the University Estates & Facilities Directorate and ITS themselves.
The Estates & Facilities Directorate supports and maintains the physical fabric and grounds of the University whilst the primary focus of ITS is to support, improve and transform the way IT is utilised across the University of Hull. The combination of these two services within the wider Infrastructure Services is intended to ensure that digital technologies and digitalisation become ubiquitous across the institution; part of the same fabric and environment providing a seamless digital experience across our whole estate.
ITS is currently organised into four functional groups:

* IT Operations
* Technology Services
* Cyber Security
* IT Projects

Technology Services, where this role will sit, is a new department within IT and is accountable for the ownership of the strategic platforms within the university. This new way of working for the university aims to drive consistency and governance around the continued iteration and development of technologies which span the entirety of the university. Examples include: the University's Data Exchange (UDX); Student Information Systems, ServiceNow, Salesforce and a new ERP.
The new role of SaaS developer will be critical to onboarding this critical platform into the university. Currently in project mode, the role will initially work closely alongside our implementation partner to ensure that there is a core system knowledge, before ultimately supporting the service after go-live.
The role will be responsible for designing, developing and configuring solutions within the platform as part of a Product Team.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post
The role is a highly skilled IT professional specialising in the design, configuration, and customisation of solutions within the SaaS platform. With a deep understanding of IT service management processes, agile methodologies and extensive expertise in SaaS scripting languages, it plays a crucial role in transforming business requirements into efficient and user-friendly outputs.
The role will create innovative solutions, configure workflows and applications, and integrate various modules to streamline processes and enhance productivity through automation. The role must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ensuring that ServiceNow implementations align perfectly with organisational needs. With a focus on continuous improvement, the post holder must stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices, contributing to the optimisation of IT services and overall business operations

The post holder will:

• Configure the platform to meet the specific needs of the organisation. This may include the design, prototype, implement, test, and deployment of business rules, technical solutions, such as scripts, UI pages/actions/policies, scheduled job, import sets and transform maps, ACLs and notifications

• Develop custom applications and modules using JavaScript, GlideScript, and other scripting languages to address unique business requirements

• Integrate the platform with other enterprise systems and third-party applications, using the university's data integration software, ensuring seamless data flow and process automation with the aim of increasing business productivity, efficiency and user experience

• Manage and resolve incidents, problems, and service requests related to the platform, ensuring optimal system performance and reliability

• Write and maintain scripts for business rules, client scripts, server scripts, and scripted web services to enhance platform functionality

• Implement and manage security controls, access controls, and user roles to ensure data privacy and compliance with security policies

• Monitor and optimise the performance of any associated applications, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and issues as they arise

• Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, customisations, and development work to facilitate troubleshooting, auditing, and knowledge sharing

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT support, business analysts, and stakeholders, to gather requirements and ensure that the solutions align with business objectives

• Work as a key part of a wider agile team, participating in team-based development, sprint planning, testing and deployment activities

• Provide training and support to end-users and administrators to ensure they can effectively use and manage ServiceNow applications
Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)

• Strong knowledge of the appropriate platform architecture and modules

• Proficiency in JavaScript, GlideScript, and other scripting languages

• Experience with web technologies (HTML, CSS, REST, SOAP) and integration techniques

• Knowledge of IT service management (ITSM) processes and best practices

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

• Platform specific certifications are a plus
