What’s the role?
We are looking for an entry level data engineer to support the data capability at Gen II through driving high impact initiatives, initially aligned to the Finance function.
The ideal candidate will have a technical background in data analytics, data science, or data engineering and will work with the Senior Data Engineer. At Gen II you will be building on a newly established data platform, initially to support the financial planning and analytics team to drive better commercial decision making but quickly extending into other areas across all business functions at Gen II.
This role provides opportunities to grow and shape the data function as it expands to be cross-functional and drive business insights across the business.
What you’ll be doing
This role may include, but will not be limited to, the following tasks which we call ‘Defined Business Activities’. The list of defined business activities is not exhaustive and may be amended from time to time.
* Assisting in building and maintaining a best-in-class data platform built on Snowflake and dbt.
* Supporting development of end-to-end data pipelines, from source systems (Intacct, Salesforce, etc.) to end consumers primarily in Power BI.
* Following established compliance with security and ensuring organizational standards are maintained within the boundaries of the data platform.
* Contribute to other projects and duties as assigned by the Finance Team.
The ideal background for this role:
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science or similar/related discipline.
* 1+ years’ experience in data related field, primarily working with cloud data warehouses.
* Strong SQL and Python required.
* Snowflake and DBT exposure are preferred.
* Exposure and knowledge of data pipelines is a plus.
* Basic Power BI knowledge.
* Knowledge & understanding of data architecture and modelling.
* Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
* Strong commercial understanding of the value of data and potential use cases it underpins.
Role Location/Hybrid Schedule
This role is based in our Southampton office. Although the nature of most of the roles within Gen II cannot be classed as totally flexible, there is scope in some cases for a form of Agile Working. The different ways in which Agile Working can be undertaken is dependent on the demands and needs of the business, the office space available and the individual’s preferences and circumstances.
