Job purpose
We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic English Language Teacher to deliver high-quality English language teaching to junior and adult students from a wide range of international backgrounds. You will teach individuals and groups, both face-to-face and online, following agreed syllabuses and using appropriate course materials, while adapting your approach to meet the needs of different learners.
You will deliver a variety of course types, including General English, specialist and exam preparation programmes, ensuring that course objectives are met and that teaching standards align with those set by the Academic Management Team. We expect you to create a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement, progress and independence.
You will work collaboratively with colleagues to support student welfare, safeguarding and quality assurance processes, including assessment, feedback and academic record-keeping. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who values continuous professional development, responds positively to feedback and takes pride in representing the values of the organisation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
* Prepare and deliver lessons in line with the course syllabus, adapting and supplementing materials as necessary to meet individual learner needs.
* Teach adult and junior classes, both face-to-face and online.
* Deliver a range of course types, including (but not limited to) General English, Business English, exam preparation, English for Care, and English Plus programmes, ensuring course objectives are met and standards set by the Academic Management Team (AMT) are maintained.
* Use classroom and digital technologies effectively to enhance the learning experience.
* Encourage active student participation through a positive, enthusiastic and learner-focused approach.
* Manage student behaviour effectively, applying agreed classroom expectations consistently and seeking support from the AMT where appropriate
* Remain sensitive to the expectations of students from different cultural backgrounds while encouraging independent, critical and reflective learning.
* Create and maintain a supportive, inclusive and motivating classroom environment
* Teach demonstration lessons for agents and/or prospective students, as agreed with the AMT.
Assessment, Feedback & Academic Support
* Monitor, assess and record students’ ongoing progress through testing, assessment and tutorials.
* Write schemes of work using course descriptors and mark assessments in line with agreed marking criteria and deadlines.
* Provide timely, constructive oral and written feedback to students and relevant stakeholders (e.g. Director of Studies), as required.
* Provide academic support through tutorials and consultations, demonstrating a willingness to offer additional guidance outside scheduled class time where appropriate.
* Conduct placement testing for new students and contribute to student induction processes.
* Deliver online testing when required, including occasional sessions outside normal working hours (by prior agreement with the AMT).
Planning, Administration & Record Keeping
* Maintain accurate records related to teaching and assessment, including attendance, punctuality, progress reports and assessment outcomes.
* Alert the AMT to student absences or concerns in line with school procedures.
* Complete weekly schemes of work and records of work taught after each lesson.
* Complete student reports at the end of courses and at other times as requested by the AMT.
* Populate the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) with relevant learning materials and resources.
* Select, prepare and share appropriate teaching materials for international learners, contributing to the teachers’ shared resource drive.
* Carry out any additional administrative tasks required for the effective and efficient running of the school.
Quality Assurance & Professional Practice
* Participate in lesson observations conducted by the AMT for quality assurance and professional development purposes.
* Support teacher training activity by allowing observation from TESOL trainees as part of OIEG’s teacher training provision.
* Attend weekly staff meetings, usually scheduled at lunchtime.
* Teach morning, afternoon and evening classes, as well as occasional weekends, by prior agreement with the AMT.
Professional Conduct & Development
* Attend staff induction prior to the commencement of the contract.
* Complete all required training, including online welfare and safeguarding training and any additional non-teaching training required by OIEG.
* Act as a positive and professional role model for students, representing and promoting the core values of OIEG.
* Attend CPD sessions provided by OIEG and take active responsibility for ongoing professional development, with support from the AMT.
* Dress appropriately and professionally at all times.
* Adhere to school policies, systems and procedures as outlined in the Teacher Manual.
* Contribute positively to the inclusive and collaborative ethos of the school by working effectively with students and colleagues.
Person Specifications
Statutory requirements
* Eligibility to live and work in in the UK
* Undergo an Enhanced DBS disclosure check or overseas equivalent
Qualifications
* Recognised ELT qualification, e.g. Trinity CertTESOL or Cambridge CELTA Undergraduate degree (*not a requirement for a candidate with a Level 7 qualification or working towards this qualification)
* Level 7 ELT qualification, e.g. Trinity Diploma TESOL/Cambridge Delta (Desirable)
* Other relevant teaching qualification (such as CELTYL) (Desirable)
Experience and knowledge
* Demonstrable English language proficiency (CEFR C2, IELTS 8.5)
* Demonstrable knowledge of effective language teaching and learning strategies
* Experience of delivering English language lessons to groups of junior and adult students
* Experience of working in a Language Teaching Organisation (e.g. language school, university language centre) (Desirable)
* Experience of working with students from a diversity of cultures and language backgrounds (Desirable)
* Experience of teaching IELTS/FCE/CAE/Business/ EAP courses (Desirable)
* Experience of working with teenagers and young learners (Desirable)
