Job Summary
Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is a General Medical Council (GMC) Sponsor Employer. This role attracts a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000 in addition to an £8,000 relocation allowance. The RRP is pro rata for part-time employees.
We are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join Lyra Ward, a 16-bed female inpatient unit that is part of our new purpose-built Northwest Mental Health Inpatient Service in Chertsey.
This is an exciting opportunity to take on a leadership role in a modern, recovery-focused environment designed to provide high-quality, therapeutic care.
You will be part of a supportive multidisciplinary team providing care for working-age adults during periods of acute mental distress. As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will take Responsible Clinician duties, lead ward rounds, support clinical decision-making, and help shape the service's ongoing development. You will also work closely with Home Treatment Teams, community services, and families to support safe discharge and recovery.

Main duties of the job
* Deliver consultant psychiatric input to inpatients admitted to the ward per the agreed Acute Service Operational Policy.
* Provide clinical leadership and be actively involved in service improvement activities.
* Work effectively with colleagues from other professional disciplines and deliver services consistent with the Trust policy for the Care Programme Approach.
* Liaise effectively with other general and specialist teams operating in Surrey to ensure effective handover when patients transfer between teams as part of the patient pathway.

Qualifications & Experience (Essential)
* MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
* Full medical registration with a licence to practice
* Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act or equivalent (or within 6–12 months of interview/assessment)
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months
* In good standing with GMC concerning warnings and conditions on practice
Qualifications & Experience (Desirable)
* Relevant higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications)
* MRCPsych or equivalent
* Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills
* Experience working with various patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across different care settings
* Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
* Experience in management
* Specific training qualification/certificate or attendance on a recognised teaching course
* Peer review or research publications
* Published audit or research projects
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience (Essential)
* Knowledge of Risk Management and relevant legislation, guidance and literature
* Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High-Quality Care for All)
* Ability to use IT, including email and the internet
* Excellent clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social perspective and wide medical knowledge
